Friday Footnote # 129

Ysgrifennwyd gan A.R.Fairbank@swansea.ac.uk / 12/5/2023

Each week we share loads of content amongst Team ION and with our network. Content that inspires us, which we find helpful, or just makes us smile. We thought we would start sharing these insights every Friday. Welcome to Friday Footnote.

More celebrations with our latest graduatesNL15.jpg

Yesterday we celebrated with our latest group of graduates from our ILM Level 3 New Leaders programme. Their final day took place at beautiful The Lighthouse in Mumbles. The views were absolutely incredible.

Delegates from companies including Miles Hire, DWJ Wealth Management, Oil4WalesEver Nimble ,and Kearns Solicitors (amongst many others!) joined us for for a day of learning and laughter.

The morning was all about reflection - reflecting what they have learned about themselves and each other, and what they have done differently in their business.

The afternoon was all about celebration. Guests of the delegates joined everyone for a lovely lunch (the sweet potato fries were incredible!) and the graduation ceremony. A fantastic day all around.

Well done to Shelly from our Swansea team for leading the cohort.

Networking with Confidence

On Tuesday this week we were delighted to run a 'Networking with Confidence' session as part of the Swansea University Postgraduate Research Festival. Leadership development specialist Jane Baker led an engaging interactive session with nearly 20 delegates, running them through a number of activities to improve their communication skills, increase their confidence as networkers, and develop their accelerator speeches.

It was brilliant to hear the delegates share their beliefs about networking, think about reframing their fears, and start to understand how to introduce themselves and their research.

A great session with a fantastic group. Huge thanks to Sally and Teresa from the PGR team for the invitation.

Understanding leadership styles with Tokio Marine

On Wednesday we were at the Swansea University School of Management for our latest leadership masterclass with team leaders from Tokio Marine HCC. In this weeks session, led by Suzanne, the delegates covered:

  • 15.jpgleadership styles
  • identified their own leadership style and its impact on others
  • emotional intelligence and how it influences their leadership
  • started to produce a leadership development plan
  • started thinking about their first assignment

Another brilliant session, we are absolutely loving working with this fantastic bunch. We're looking forward to our next session in a few weeks time where the delegates will be gaining an understanding of behaviour styles using DISC.
