Friday Footnote # 127

Ysgrifennwyd gan A.R.Fairbank@swansea.ac.uk / 28/4/2023

Each week we share loads of content amongst Team ION and with our network. Content that inspires us, which we find helpful, or just makes us smile. We thought we would start sharing these insights every Friday. Welcome to Friday Footnote.

2 days of learning, and fun, with Tokio MarineIMG_8492.JPG

This week we started our next bespoke leadership programme with team leaders from Tokio Marine HCC. Following a hugely successful programme last year, we are delighted to be supporting 9 team leaders on the next stage of their leadership journey.

During the 2 days the delegates:

  • clarified what leadership means to them
  • explored the skills, behaviours and knowledge of a leader
  • found out more about, and practiced, reflective learning
  • learned more about coaching using the OSCAR Model
  • began to develop their leadership development needs

The sun came out for day 2, so it was brilliant to get outside for some of the activities. We cannot wait for the next masterclasses, starting in a few weeks time, at the Swansea University School of Management

If you are interested in finding out more about how we can work with you and your business to develop the people within your team or organisation, get in touch with Adam Fairbank on ionleadership@swansea.ac.uk.

Celebrating 6 years of AGOR IPAGOR_event.jpg

On Wednesday evening, ION Programme Lead Suzanne attended the AgorIP Celebration event at the Swansea University School of Management. The project, which has been running since 2016, 'works with commercial mentors and specialists including BIC Innovation, who can help inject creativity into your strategic thinking, prioritise your ideas and turn those ideas into value for your business so that you not only survive, but thrive'.

There current round of funding is coming to an end, but part of the event was to share exciting details of their future offerings. There were also some fantastic presentations from the team at M-SParc on Anglesey (including former ION colleague Gwenllian) on their work on innovation and entrepreneurship in North Wales, as well as Welsh GovernmentRoyal Academy of Engineering and Vaughan Gething MS, Minister for the Economy

The future of innovation in Wales is bright.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its role in higer education

Yesterday, Adam and Llewelyn from our Swansea team attended a Swansea Academy of Learning & Teaching (SALT) online session discussing 'An Introduction to Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education'. AI is very much changing the way we live, work, and study. During this session, we received a quick overview of AI, as well as a live demonstration of how it can be used, and there was then an interesting discussion on the opportunities, and challenges, of AI in the higher education sector. Definitely something to keep an eye on.
