Friday Footnote # 42

Written by A.R.Fairbank@swansea.ac.uk / Friday 5th March 2021 / ION leadership news, / Blog posts

Each week we share loads of content amongst Team ION and with our network. Content that inspires us, which we find helpful or just makes us smile. We thought we would start sharing these insights every Friday. Welcome to Friday footnote.

When Saturday ComesSocial_banner.png

We are hugely excited to be match sponsors for tomorrow's Swansea City home match against Middlesbrough. We are very proud members of the Swansea City Business Network and have been hugely proud to see our programme advertised at the Liberty Stadium and in the matchday programme and sponsor defender Ryan Bennett.

Our Marketing Manager Adam is massively looking forward to Saturday. "I am sure all of the team will be tuning in tomorrow, hoping that the Swans can get another 3 points as they push for the Premier League. We are delighted to support the Swans and we have everything crossed for a successful season on and off the pitch".

Diolch Gwenllian

Sadly, today we are saying goodbye to Lead Wales / ION leadership legend, Gwenllian Owen. There has been a lot of love shared for Gwenllian in ION Towers this week as we say goodbye to our Bangor Programme Manager.

Gwenllian_4.png"Gwenllian has been an integral part of the Lead/ION family for the past decade so it is a huge loss for us to say goodbye to her. Since I have been in post, she has been a source of advice and support on a personal level and has guided both the Swansea and Bangor teams to achieve a huge impact over the last decade. I know she is off to pursue an exciting new post and wish her every success and happiness for the future. Thank you, Gwenllian from the Swansea ION team." Suzanne Parry Jones, ION Project Lead

Gwenllian will be missed by everyone, but especially by our Bangor team. “Gwenllian has been a true inspiration to work with over many years, she has been a colleague, mentor and friend. I would not be the person I am today without her guidance, motivation and work ethic. She keeps everyone laughing in the office with her ‘dad jokes’ which I am sure will be missed by all.  We would all like to wish her the best of luck and every success in her new role. This is not goodbye but a simple ‘see you soon’!” Mannon Briggs, Project Assistant

In her last blog for the project, Gwenllian shared her thoughts on 10 years of developing extraordinary leaders.

Best of luck in the future Gwenllian. Diolch.

Dream Team

We were delighted to announce this week that Suzanne, Programme Manager for our Swansea team, has been appointed ION Project Lead. Suzanne will provide strategic leadership for the programme, driving the operational strategy and management of the project. Find out more about Suzanne's appointment.

We were also delighted to welcome Vichy Bevan-Jones to the team. Vichy joins us as a Leadership Development Specialist. We caught up with Vichy to discuss her career to date, how she is studying for a PGCE and Masters, and how she is now the 2nd member of the team who supports Sunderland. Find out more about Vichy.

Always LearningKaye_event.JPG

As we say all the time, we are huge advocates of continuous learning in Team ION. This week we have been out and about (in a virtual world obviously!) learning from others. Clare, our finance manager, attended the ACCA Cymru St David's Day Business Breakfast, and at the same time Adam joined a Welsh Government webinar to discuss how 'There is Gold in the Welsh Valleys'.

On Tuesday, Adam joined a Business Wales webinar discussing the importance of the EU regions to Welsh innovation. As Ken Skates MS said in his introduction 'How can we afford to not invest in innovation'.

Kaye also attended the 'Fighting for our City Centre' event on Wednesday where, amongst others, Russell Greenslade from Swansea BID and Cllr Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader, discussed the future of Swansea. The session provided some "really great insights into the city and centre and exciting upcoming developments".

Become an extraordinary leader

Our leadership programmes are currently fully-funded until the end of August 2021. We were delighted to recently announce our next ILM Level 5 Leading Growth programme which will be starting in July 2021. Find out more on our courses page.
