Friday Footnote # 8
Each week we share loads of content amongst Team ION and with our network. Content which inspires us, which we either find really helpful or we think would help our networks, or things that just make us smile. We thought we would start sharing these insights every Friday. Welcome to Friday footnote!
Inspiration
Here are just a few things that have piqued our interest this week:
- Do you have any of these 4 bad habits of managers? Here's how to change them (via TED Ideas)
- Why we procrastinate when we have long deadlines (via Harvard Business Review)
- Introducing the ION Zoom Book Room (via our very own Kim)
- Is this the secret of smart leadership? (via BBC.com)
#WednesdayWalk
Regular readers will know that team ION are huge advocate's of the great Welsh outdoors and it's role in helping us to not only manage our wellbeing but also offer us time to reflect. On our social media channels from next week we'll be sharing #WednesdayWalk, a weekly walk from somewhere across Wales which a member of the team has completed.
A new wave of virtual learning
We were delighted this week to announce our next wave of virtual learning sessions. The feedback from the sessions so far has been fantastic so we are really looking forward to welcoming delegates to future sessions covering topics including innovation, coaching, learning organisations and the #ZoomBookRoom. Information on future sessions can be found on our events pages.
First up is our Adapt or standstill? session where Tony will be discussing how an adaptive leadership style can meet the business challenges which the current situation presents. Tony has been prepping for the session by watching Marty Linsky's TED talk 'Adaptive Leadership-Leading Change'.
Always Learning
The team have been keeping up their CPD this week with a number of online learning opportunities. Tony took part in an MIT webinar covering 'Overload and what we can do about it', Kim took part in a Real Business webinar on innovation and Adam, Jill and Tony popped into various elements of the CIPD 3-day Festival of Work.
Adam also took part in 3 Institute of Leadership & Management webinars as part of their #leadersatplay series discussing leadership and sport. The webinars covered building resilience, transferable skills and what sport can teach us about leadership. It also reminded Adam of one of his favourite most recent reads, Legacy by James Kerr, which discusses what the All Blacks can teach us about business. Highly recommend.
What online learning opportunities have you completed during lockdown? Let us know your recommendations in the comments below or on social media.
Best thing since sliced bread
Baking continues to keep Team ION busy during the lockdown. Tony, the sourdough master, not only continues to bake beautiful sourdough loaves but has offered Adam a sourdough masterclass once lockdown is over. Although Adam hasn't completely given up on sourdough, he continues to experiment with baking bread with his kids, and Kaye made American pancakes.
