Friday Footnote # 7

Written by A.R.Fairbank@swansea.ac.uk / Friday 5th June 2020

Each week we share loads of content amongst Team ION and with our network. Content which inspires us, which we either find really helpful or we think would help our networks, or things that just make us smile. We thought we would start sharing these insights every Friday. Welcome to Friday footnote!

The Pleasure of Books

Books1.JPGWe are massive readers in Team ION. As Dr Seuss said "The more that you read, the more that you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go".

Gary is currently reading Reflexive Leadership by Mats Alvesson et al, Charlotte has just finished The Glass Woman by Caroline Lea, Clare is reading House Of Glass by Hadley Freeman and Suzanne is reading This is Going to Hurt by Adam Kay.

Some members of the team have multiple books on the go. Kim is currently reading Do Scale by Les McKeownReasons to Stay Alive by Matt Haig and Big Sky by Kate Atkinson, Adam is currently reading Do Agile by Tim Drake and Face It: A Memoir by Debbie Harry and Tony is reading Grass for His Pillow by Lian Hearn and David Bowie: A Life by Dylan Jones. Adam and Tony have already agreed to swap the Debbie Harry and David Bowie books once they've finished.

What are you reading at the moment? Let us know in the comments section or on our social media feeds.

Over the last few weeks we have piloted an ION Zoom Book Room with some of our alumni. Following fantastic feedback, we were delighted earlier this week to announce our first open ION Zoom Book Room, where delegates will chat through the aforementioned DO Lead by Les McKeown. The session takes place on Tuesday 30 June and you can find out more, and book to attend, here.

Inspiration

Here are just a few things that have piqued our interest this week:

Always Learning

How_we_learn.JPGAs with every week, we never stop learning in team ION. We traditionally deliver face-to-face, and since lockdown have adapted to not only a new way of working but also a new way of delivering. A big part of this has been Zoom, and Tony blogged this week about getting to grips with Zoom as a learning platform.

This week saw us deliver our 'How do we learn?' virtual learning session. There were some fantastic discussions amongst those in attendance on individual learning styles, and how an understanding of different learning styles can support the CPD of individuals and their teams. Thanks to everyone who joined us.

The feedback on all of our virtual sessions to date has been fantastic and we are delighted to have added further sessions to our events calendar this week. Next Friday (12 June) we will be discussing The Power of Collaboration, as mentioned above our first open ION Zoom Book Room will take place on 30th June and after the success of our first Coach Don't tell session, we are running another 2-part session starting on July 1st.

Continue to keep an eye on our website and social media channels for exciting announcements of future sessions.
