Do you want to become an extraordinary leader?

Written by A.R.Fairbank@swansea.ac.uk / Friday 29th June 2018

At ION leadership we transform business owners and managers into extraordinary leaders. We have a proven track record of success after working with over 1200 managers, leaders and entrepreneurs to create a community of leaders - a community that embeds learning, innovation and trust in its practice.

We have new programmes starting later this year and we would love you to become part of the ION leadership experience. However, don’t just take our word for it. We are obviously huge advocates of our programmes but who better to explain why you should get involved than our delegates.

DSC_0091.JPGWe have recently completed an evaluation report of our Leading Growth programme where we received feedback from 68 leaders and managers of businesses from across South Wales. And the feedback was fantastic.

Below are just a few of the highlights:

  • 100% of respondents agreed that the ION leadership programme has made them a better leader
  • 92.5% of respondents agreed that joining the programme made them more confident in their leadership role
  • 100% of respondents agreed that the programme taught them new skills and provided them with new ideas.

Many potential delegates worry that time spent away from work is not time well spent. However, 95% of respondents agreed that spending time out of their enterprise either had no impact, or a positive impact on their business.

Our programmes are about growing both the individual and their organisation. That’s why we ask questions about both the economic impact as well as the impact on participants in our evaluation.

In terms of economic impact, 90% of respondents created and communicated a strategy / vision for their enterprise and 84% improved profitability thanks to the programme. 47% of participants have increased the number of employees since starting the programme and 42% intend to introduce existing products or services to new markets.

“My company has been going 5 years, last year we actually saw a dip in out turnover, we’d been turning over quite nicely, so we came on the course to reinvigorate our enthusiasm and this course has done that. Doing the figures yesterday, we’re already up 20% on 2015, we’ve employed 1 and are looking to employ another. This course has had a massive benefit.”

And what about the impact on participants?

As mentioned earlier, 100% of respondents agreed that the programme has made them a better leader but specifically, 54% of delegates improved their ‘communicating with others’ skills and 54% felt they had improved their ‘leading others’ skills.

“The key things I picked up on the course are asking the right questions and managing people in the right way. I’ve made changes to the office after going out to see other businesses, revamped the signage, changed the internal layout etc, so I don’t see it ending here.”

image3.jpegAn evaluation of a recent programme ran on the Port Talbot Enterprise Zone produced similar results:

  • 70% of businesses involved have seen an increase in turnover
  • 50% of organisations involved employ more people
  • 100% of delegates agreed that the programme has helped them develop knowledge and improve their leadership skills

And the anecdotal feedback was just as positive:

“This course has helped me listen to my staff more, to streamline the business, attract better customers, and help/educate them to plan their work as well as mine.”

The programme in Port Talbot was such a success that we have recently started another programme on the enterprise zone with another 19 delegates starting their leadership journey.

Our delegates are our biggest advocates and always have the nicest things to say. If you want to read even more delegate testimonials, check them out here.

So, what are you waiting for? Our next New Leaders programme starts in Bridgend in September and our next Leading Growth programme starts at the National Botanic Gardens in October.
