Alumni Case Study: Wildhorse Brewery Company
Wild Horse Brewing Company is an independent brewery based in Llandudno, North Wales. It was founded in 2015 by husband and wife, Dave & Emma Faragher, with the goal of brewing modern and delicious craft beer for the people of North Wales. Now in their 8th years of business, a team of 9 are responsible for the full process of milling grain, kegging and canning the beers ready for sale. Dave recently spoke to us about his ION experience.
Why did you choose to enrol on ION leadership?
A relative of an employee of our company initially recommended the course to me – they said the course was excellent and that even though they were only a small family run business, they got a huge amount from it.
Having run Wild Horse for 6 years, I hadn’t ever done any formal leadership/management training and always led/managed based on previous experiences of being managed at companies I had worked for. I would say this had got me to a good point but there were some situations that I’d been struggling with and felt that some formal training would allow me to become a better and more effective leader.
What did you get out of it?
I’ve already learned so much about how to lead people more effectively, and about my own leadership style.
The leadership models presented have been really helpful, and the course has highlighted many leadership challenges that all leaders face. Some of the tasks in the experiential days and discussions with my course peers have provided some of the most memorable learning experiences so far.
I now find myself approaching my day-to-day tasks in a different way and am much better at putting myself in the position of my team when I am communicating what we are trying to do and why.
I understand so much more about my own leadership style, including my own strengths and weaknesses. Not only will this help my day-to-day leadership tasks, but will also allow me to better lead the growth and associated expansion projects in the future.
Would you recommend the programme?
Yes, absolutely. I have already recommended it several times – the course has been a great experience and I have gained so much more than I expected to.
