On 6 September 2016 the ION leadership Advanced programme cohort met at Welsh Whisky.

We were privileged to be in the Penderyn boardroom, the heart of a truly iconic Welsh brand.

The immersive learning event was hosted by Penderyn Managing Director Stephen Davies who started the session with a brief history of the Penderyn brand.

Professor Paul Hannon took over for the morning and helped the group of business owners assess their Strategies for Growth. This was an interactive session allowing business leaders time for introspection and reflection on their business growth aspirations and adjust their plans accordingly.

Lunch was an excellent meal and the business leaders were joined by Stephen Davies, Sian Whitelock (Brand Director) and Neil Quigley (Director of Operations) allowing the delegates to fire questions and enhance their understanding of business from the Penderyn perspective.

The afternoon was spent in boardroom consultations followed by a tour of the Welsh Whisky distillery with Stephen Davies explaining the Penderyn approach to branding, growth strategy, export and production operations.

The business leaders left Penderyn feeling inspired and enriched through the experience afforded by our generous hosts.

Asked how they felt at the end of the day, delegates responded:

“Inspired, keen to get back and look at the business using the tools and processes introduced today.”

I feel more confident and feel that I have a better insight into business growth.

“Good, the session has given me lots to think about.”
