Fully funded leadership programme announced in Port Talbot Enterprise Zone

Written by A.R.Fairbank@swansea.ac.uk / Thursday 19th April 2018 / ION leadership news

ION Leadership, Swansea University’s flagship business development intervention, are happy to announce that we are working in partnership with Welsh Government and the Port Talbot Enterprise Zone to deliver a fully-funded Leadership and Business Growth Programme starting in June 2018.

The programme follows on from a hugely successful programme in 2017 where we collaborated with the enterprise zone to design, develop and a deliver a ‘Leading Growth’ programme for local business leaders.

The inaugural Port Talbot Enterprise Zone cohort was a huge success:

  • 70% of organisations who took part saw an increase in turnover

  • 50% of organisations who took part now employ more people

  • 100% of delegates agreed the programme has helped develop their knowledge and improve their leadership skills

  • 87.5% of delegates fully achieved their aims

  • 83% of delegates felt more confident in their roles

We are therefore very happy to be working with the enterprise zone again in 2018, as Programme Manager Jo Bishop explained:

“It is fantastic news that the funding for this year’s programme has been confirmed. Last year’s programme was a huge success and the impact of the programme on not only the individuals involved but also their organisations and the economy in Port Talbot is evident.

We are therefore hugely looking forward to working with the next wave of business leaders and managers to not only help them grow their business but also themselves as leaders”

ION Leadership is backed by £3.6m from the European Social Fund to raise the skills and drive productivity and turnover in small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as larger companies.

To qualify for a free place on the 2018 programme the business / organisation must be:

  • Based within the Port Talbot Enterprise Zone

  • Fall into the micro or small category (less than 50 employees, less than £7.7m turnover and balance sheet less than £7.7m)

  • Have at least £7,000 of their 200,000 euro (£174,000 de minimis allowance left)

Places will be limited so please call us directly on 01792 606738 to register your interest or reserve a place.

We also have a ‘Leadership Conversation’ event taking place in Port Talbot on Thursday 3rd May where you can find out more about ION Leaderships programmes and hear from previous delegates how our programmes have helped them grow their businesses. You can register to attend the event here.
